Victorian Oval Cut Ceylon Sapphire Pendant

An exquisite Victorian Oval Cut Ceylon Sapphire and Diamond Pendant set in Platinum. The pendant has an open work tear drop shaped design and is dated circa 1880.

This beautiful and rare piece has a very impressive Ceylon Sapphire to the centre of 4.13 carats and measuring 8.6mm x 7.4mm x 6.09mm. The Ceylon Sapphire is untreated and transparent giving it an exceptional brightness and clarity. The Ceylon sapphire is topped with an old 8 cut diamond, measuring approx. 1.5mm in diameter and both the Ceylon sapphire and the diamond are rub over set and hang freely in the centre of the tear shaped panel. The shackle and tear shaped panel is set with a total of 19 diamonds, one circular old cut measuring approx. 3mm diameter, one oval cut measuring approx. 3.4mm x 2.9mm diameter, three old cut/old Swiss cut measuring between 3.4mm x 3.2 mm and 2.9mm - 3mm diameter and fourteen measuring between 1mm and 1.7mm diameter. Estimated total diamond weight 0.87 carats, SI/I2 clarity.

The pendant hangs on an 18ct white gold chain of 16 inches.

Ceylon sapphires are known for having high transparency and brilliance when compared to sapphires from other regions and this pendant is a fabulous example of this.
